“Waste is merely misplaced value“

26.08.2026

Sandy Lin drives the transformation of global supply chains from the heart of Asia's recycling sector. In this yes or no-interview, the Director at Da Fon Environmental Technology and Cluster Manager Asia for the PiFA explains how regional manufacturing discipline meets international compliance. Backed by the mission "Zero Waste, Full Circularity," she demonstrates how auditable data turns post-consumer plastic into a highly trusted, strategic resource.

The Network: Plastic is Fantastic Association

Why is Da Fon Environmental Technology a member of the Plastic is Fantastic Association?

Because the global conversation needs balance. The Western world is often highly emotional and anti-plastic. In Asia, we view plastic differently: it is a normal necessity of daily life. As an Asian recycling company, we see the waste challenges clearly, but we also see the massive industrial potential. PiFA provides the global platform to bridge these perspectives and prove that plastic is a valuable resource when designed responsibly, collected effectively, and verified transparently.

What kind of future for plastics do you associate with the Plastic is Fantastic Association?

A future where plastic is no longer trapped in a simple good or bad debate. I imagine a system where materials are valued, not wasted. In this global circular economy, products are designed for their next life, recycling networks are robust, and sustainability claims are backed by solid data. PiFA helps shift the discussion from emotion to impact.

What would need to happen through PiFA for the plastics debate to take a genuinely positive turn?

We must make the conversation honest and practical. We cannot deny the problems of plastic pollution, but we should not reduce the material to only its downsides. A positive shift happens when the international public stops focusing on blame and starts building an industrial system that actively keeps plastic circulating.

What can a platform like PiFA achieve that individual companies cannot achieve on their own?

An individual company can only tell its own story, but the plastics value chain is too complex for anyone to change alone. On world tours and at global fairs, you quickly realize how easily individual players can feel isolated in their daily operations. While these international events act like a vibrant melting pot for brainstorming, the industry itself remains heavily dominated by large, established corporations due to high entry barriers. This is exactly where PiFA comes in. PiFA channels this global energy into a continuous movement, creating a powerful collective voice that brings in much-needed diversity. By connecting Asian tech providers with Western brands and opening doors for younger startups and fresh talent, we transform isolated corporate efforts into a credible, fact-based global shift.

The Mission: What drives Da Fon Environmental Technology?

In your view, what is the most important reason why Da Fon Environmental Technology exists in the first place?

To prove that resources should never disappear after a single use. We return post-consumer plastic from Asia's massive supply networks back into the industrial value chain. Today, our role is bigger than just producing recycled pellets. Our most important work is building the data infrastructure and standards that make recycled plastic trustworthy for global brands by proving exactly where it came from.

What new possibilities does Da Fon Environmental Technology open up in the plastics market?

We transform recycled plastics from a cheap alternative into a trusted, strategic material. Historically, brands sourcing from Asia faced unstable supply and zero traceability. Da Fon removes these barriers. The market is moving toward digital product passports. To support this, we actively align Taiwan’s standards with strict European mandates, such as the 20% to 30% PCR requirements. This ensures that the value lies not just in the physical pellet, but in the auditable proof behind it.

What benefit of your work is most important to your customers?

The most important benefit is absolute trust. Global brands are not just buying recycled resin; they need regulatory and reputational risk to disappear in a provable way. We provide the confidence that our materials are traceable, the quality is stable, and every single sustainability claim can stand up to strict international compliance audits.

What would be missing from the plastics market if Da Fon Environmental Technology did not exist?

The market would lose the vital bridge between Taiwan's advanced recycling infrastructure and global circular supply chains. Without Da Fon, high-quality PCR materials would remain underutilized. The industry would also lose a crucial Asian perspective: proof that Taiwan's manufacturing discipline and feedstock efficiency can solve global circular economy challenges at scale.

Final Question: What should people take away from this discussion about plastic?

That plastic itself is not the enemy. Waste and mismanagement are the enemies. A linear system that discards valuable resources is what we must change. When we combine smart design, transparent data, and robust recycling infrastructure, plastic stops being an environmental challenge and becomes a core pillar of a sustainable future. The next era of plastics will not be defined only by who can produce the material. It will be defined by who can provide the data to prove its value.
